After a devastating defeat against Manchester City, Newcastle United bounced back by defeating Nottingham Forest by 4-3. Their next game is lined up against the Premier League table-toppers Liverpool in an away form this weekend.

The Magpies are fifth on the points table and are battling for a spot in the top four. Hence, they will have highly motivated to extract a positive result out of this game. However, it won’t be easy against the mighty Reds at their own den.

Defence

Nick Pope made his first start of 2025 in the previous game and is likely to continue operating between the sticks for now. Right-back Tino Livramento is also expected to be retained for this fixture.

Though Sven Botman could return from his knee injury, he might not start this game. Hence, the centre-back duo of Fabian Schar and Dan Burn remain intact. Left-back Lewis Hall had a fantastic game last week and he will be hoping to deliver a similar display.

Midfield

Bruno Guimaraes and Joe Willock are likely to be deployed in the middle of the park once again. However, Lewis Miley is unlikely to start this game as he isn’t experienced enough. Sandro Tonali should be the one completing the midfield trio.

Jacob Murphy continues to provide his services from the right flank while Anthony Gordon marks his presence on the other side of the pitch.

Without any surprise, Alexander Isak is leading the attacking line and can be dangerous for the Reds.

The Magpies have only two absentees for this game in the form of Joelinton and Jamaal Lascelles.
