Verona held on down to 10 men for a point against Udinese, thanks largely to the saves of Lorenzo Montipò, who pushed a late screamer onto the crossbar.
This was a local derby and Hellas were revitalised by two wins in their last three, dragging them out of the drop zone, but the season was over for Abdou Harroui after knee ligament surgery. The Friulani remained comfortably mid-table following a win away to Fiorentina and 2-2 draw with Torino. Maduka Okoye, Keinan Davis, Oier Zarraga and Lautaro Giannetti were still out, but Martin Payero returned and new signing Oumar Solet thrown straight into the starting XI.
Suat Serdar’s scorcher from distance stung the Udinese goalkeeper’s gloves in the opening minutes, then another curler was deflected just wide by Solet.
Kingsley Ehizibue would’ve given away a penalty for handball on 37 minutes, but Domagoj Bradaric was flagged offside first, rendering it irrelevant.
Lorenzo Montipò fingertipped a Florian Thauvin free kick over the bar and after the restart Casper Tengstedt failed to make the most of a Payero error.

Montipò made a desperate save on the Sandi Lovric volley from 10 yards on a Thauvin cross, but Udinese missed a sitter when Hassane Kamara ballooned over the bar from close range, having been gifted a lucky ricochet on the clearance.
Lorenzo Lucca turned his marker to force a save at the near post, as did the ferocious Suslov free kick.
Montipò got behind a towering Lucca header, but Verona went down to 10 men when Serdar clumsily lunged at Jurgen Ekkelenkamp for his second yellow card.
Udinese tried to take advantage, but Arthur Atta’s rocket from distance was acrobatically fingertipped onto the crossbar by Montipò, who also denied Ekkelenkamp on the rebound, even with the offside flag up.
Sent off: Serdar 71 (V)
