A weekend of high-profile matches in Serie A, headlined by the iconic Derby della Madonnina, is upon us. After experiencing contrasting fortunes in the Champions League, arch-rivals Milan and Inter will renew hostilities at the San Siro on Sunday.
However, the high-stakes encounter between the Milan clubs isn’t the only mouth-watering match-up awaiting Serie A fans this weekend. Indeed, resurgent Roma will lock horns with table-topping Napoli at the Stadio Olimpico later in the day.
Elsewhere, Atalanta and Torino will trade tackles in Bergamo. A catalog of streaming platforms allows supporters to follow Serie A live scores and stay updated on all the action from these thrilling games. But without further ado, let’s look at our weekend predictions.
Sunday’s blockbuster at the San Siro has all the makings of a revenge-poised contest. Despite their thoroughly disappointing Serie A campaign, Milan remain the only domestic team to beat Inter this season. Furthermore, they’ve done so twice.
After a 2-1 league win in mid-September, Sergio Conceicao’s side pulled off an epic second-half comeback to beat the Nerazzurri 3-2 in January’s Supercoppa Italiana final. As a result, Paulo Fonceca’s successor could become the first Milan boss to win his first two derbies in charge of the Rossoneri since Massimiliano Allegri in 2011.
However, Milan’s morale took a massive hit in midweek Champions League action as Dinamo Zagreb stunned them 2-1 in Croatia. Consequently, they’ll need to navigate the playoff round to join Inter in the Round of 16.
Unlike their opposition, Simone Inzaghi’s charges strolled to a 3-0 win against Monaco at home, making it five wins from six competitive matches since returning from Saudi Arabia (D1).
Buoyed by a 2-0 Europa League home win against Eintracht Frankfurt, Roma return to Serie A, looking to build on a come-from-behind 2-1 triumph at Udinese. Shockingly, it was their first away league victory since April!
However, the task at hand is nothing short of Herculean. Visiting Napoli are firing on all cylinders as they head into proceedings on a seven-game winning league streak after fighting back to inflict Juventus’ first Serie A defeat under Thiago Motta last weekend.
Antonio Conte’s men have been relentless on the road, winning their last four away league matches whilst netting 3+ goals on each occasion. Napoli’s formidable away form spells trouble for Roma’s hopes of winning back-to-back Derby del Sole editions at home since 2016.
Interestingly, the last four top-flight meetings between Roma and Napoli in the capital have seen one or both teams fail to score in matches featuring under 2.5 goals. Yet, every tradition must come to a halt at some point.
A spirited 2-2 draw at Barcelona on Wednesday wasn’t enough to propel Atalanta straight into the Champions League Round of 16. However, it was the fourth consecutive game in all competitions in which Gian Piero Gasperini’s side netted 2+ goals, testifying to their well-documented scoring prowess.
That’s a feat Atalanta achieved in their last five league clashes against Torino at the Gewiss Stadium since a scoreless draw in September 2018. La Dea remarkably bagged an average of three goals per match in that sequence, making our last tip a no-brainer.
