Manchester United could yet bid farewell to Casemiro this season, with loan interest reportedly coming from the Brazilian midfielder's home country.

Casemiro, whose hasn't played club football in his native Brazil since joining Real Madrid's B team from Sao Paulo in 2013, has been left on the periphery by new head coach Ruben Amorim.

The 32-year-old was put on in the final stages of Friday's FA Cup victory over Leicester City, but it was only a second appearance of 2025. Casemiro hasn't started since the December defeat to Newcastle United and has been an unused substitute for nine of the last 11 Premier League games.

Now, reported interest from Flamengo has emerged. Even with the transfer window for English clubs shut, Brazilian football is currently in its off-season and teams are able to continue recruiting in preparation for the 2025 campaign until the end of February.

Brazilian journalist Jorge Nicola has claimed that Flamengo have spent the last few days "investigating" the Casemiro situation.

It is said that the four-time Champions League winner is of huge interest to coach Filipe Luis, the former Atletico Madrid and Chelsea left-back, and that United would be "willing" to accept a loan.

Casemiro is the highest earner at Old Trafford and it is also suggested that United would "help with part of the salary", as they have already done with Marcus Rasford to facilitate his Aston Villa move. However, Nicola, who broadcasts updates via his YouTube channel, added that it could still be considered a financial risk for Flamengo because of the cost, even with a subsidised salary.

Flamengo have also been heavily linked with Arsenal midfielder Jorginho in recent months, with a recruitment drive perhaps part of their strategy to strengthen ahead of competing with Europe's best sides at the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup. The Rio de Janeiro outfit are among South America's contingent, qualifying by virtue of lifting the Copa Libertadores in 2022.

Ex-Real Madrid, Manchester City and Juventus full-back Danilo was a very recent capture, with Alex Sandro having joined in 2024. Former Roma and Marseille midfielder Gerson captains Flamengo, with vice-captain Giorgian de Arrascaeta a veteran of the last two World Cups with Uruguay. Guillermo Varela, once of Manchester United and briefly of Real Madrid, is another on the books.
