The Blues have increasingly tapped into the South American market under the Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital ownership, signing a number of talents from the continent.

Chelsea arguably have South America’s two most exciting talents in Estevao Willian and Kendry Paez arriving in the summer, whilst Andrey Santos is expected to play a key role in the squad.

Chelsea in talks with Gremio for Gabriel Mec

The Blues continued their raid on the South American market as they agreed a €14m deal with Corinthians for 17-year-old left back Denner Evangelista, who will join the club in 2026 when he turns 18.

Chelsea aren’t done there and it seems they have their eyes on another top talent from Brazil, 16-year-old Gremio attacking midfielder Mec.

The Stamford Bridge outfit expressed interest in Mec during the summer, but no deal was agreed and now journalist Uriel Iugt has provided an update on the situation.

He took to X.com and said:

“#Chelsea continues in the bidding for Gabriel Mec. Talks with #Gremio are ongoing, but there is still no agreement for a possible transfer.

“Other important clubs in Europe also want the young promise of the club from Gaucho.”

Mec has come through the academy at Gremio, although he’s yet to make his debut for the first team, but given his progress that might not be far away.

The teenager has made 20 appearances for the Gremio under-20 side scoring four goals and providing one assist, and is very much viewed as a talent for the future.

Fans will be hoping all this focus on stars for the future doesn’t detract away from the fact the first team squad needs strengthening in keys areas this summer if Chelsea are to return to competing for major trophies.
