AC Milan are preparing for a season defining game on Wednesday, and should they win the Coppa Italia, there would be some good in the season.

Everyone will wish to forget the majority of this season, with Milan often being far worse than good, and failing to reach many of their pre-season targets. However, they can still earn a bit of salvation in the final moments of the season.

Speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport, Ambrosini offered his view on the situation ahead of the cup final, and Milan News have relayed his words.

Milan-Bologna on Friday, what did he say?

“That the final will be balanced and that Bologna will have to be extremely careful, otherwise they will be punished by Milan’s individualities.”

Conceiçao is a specialist in comebacks.

“Milan have a different way of being on the pitch than before. Mentally they have improved a lot.”

“No. In the final, all thoughts about the past and future are erased. The only objective is to lift the cup.”

Differences between the last Serie A match and the final?

“Milan had a clearer head on Friday than Bologna, who are in the running for the Champions League. The Coppa Italia is a shared objective: I don’t know who will have more pressure, but the emotional burden will be there for everyone.”

Milan is more used to playing finals.

“Undoubtedly, yes. Fighting for a trophy will bring new emotions and excitement to Bologna’s players. These are factors that can influence.”

Tactically, what kind of match do you expect?

“Bologna will play the same game as always, with intensity, courage, pressure and full-field duels: Italiano will not change his football. If Milan match the intensity level of the rossoblù, they have superior individuals who can decide.”

Which is your favorite?

“Bologna has acquired an important status by beating Inter, Milan, Lazio, Roma and Atalanta and drawing with Napoli and Juventus. On Wednesday Italiano will face the Rossoneri face to face, asking his players to defend by running forward. This is the type of football that Conceiçao would also like to see more consistently, but it takes time and work to teach it.”

With 3-4-3, has Milan found the right module?

“The team now has a better balance and energy than a few months ago. Milan has always had a strong squad, but a well-oiled collective context enhances the qualities of individuals: this is the case of Leao and Theo, but also of Reijnders and Tomori.”

Could Ndoye’s recovery be a factor?

“Ndoye is very strong and raises the quality level in Bologna. He is a step above the others, even if Cambiaghi, Orsolini and Dominguez are also good.”

Orsolini meanwhile has 13 goals in Serie A…

“In terms of continuity he has definitely exploded and he seems more serene and aware than in the past. Calm allows you to make the right choice and now he often makes the best decisions.”

Ndoye and Orsolini possible protagonists. Who do you count on in Milan?

“Reijnders because he has the physical characteristics to create problems with his dynamism and his ability to get involved at the right time.”

Gimenez or Jovic: who will be the starter?

“Jovic has some shots and is good, but this season, due to injuries, he has not been consistent. To be Milan’s centre forward, you need consistency. Gimenez arrived in January and had a physical problem. He hasn’t played enough to give a definitive judgement, but in the last few days he has improved.”

Opinion on Bologna’s 2024-25 season, will they be enough without a win on Wednesday?

“Even if they don’t reach the Champions League and lose the Coppa Italia, Bologna’s season would be top-notch. Considering the change of coach, the departures of Calafiori and Zirkzee, the Champions League and the results against the big teams, Bologna has had a great championship.”

And what about Milan?

“Too many times he hasn’t taken advantage of the opportunity to show his qualities. You can’t be satisfied with two cups if you don’t compete for the club’s minimum objective, fourth place in the league.”

“I scored in the first leg of the final won 4-1 at the Olimpico against Roma and I got angry because I got a yellow card that made me miss the return leg when we celebrated the Coppa Italia and the Champions League.”
