Measuring up Newcastle United against all the other Premier League teams.
How do we gauge it?
Which Premier League teams are outperforming their rivals?
For Newcastle United and the rest, it surely comes down to what it always does.
How many matches you are winning.
So I have had a look at all 20 Premier League clubs this season…
With less than two weeks to go of the 2024/25 season, this is how many matches each Premier League team has won (and lost), in Premier League AND domestic cup competitions (as of the morning of Monday 12 May 2025):
30 and 6 Liverpool
29 and 11 Newcastle United
25 and 10 Man City
23 and 11 Villa
22 and 12 Forest
21 and 7 Arsenal
20 and 11 Chelsea
20 and 12 Palace
19 and 11 Brighton
19 and 15 Brentford
18 and 15 Fulham
17 and 13 Bournemouth
16 and 22 Tottenham
14 and 19 Man U
14 and 22 Wolves
11 and 14 Everton
11 and 18 West Ham
8 and 26 Leicester
6 and 23 Ipswich
6 and 30 Southampton
As you can see above, when it comes to domestic competitions this season, Newcastle United are second most successful, when it comes to winning football matches. By some distance.
It is only Liverpool who have won more domestic matches this season than Eddie Howe’s side, just the one ahead. With two games each remaining.
Newcastle now with four more wins than Manchester City who are next highest.
Six more than Villa, seven more than Forest, eight more wins than Arsenal. Nine or more clear then of Chelsea and the rest.
To put this into proper context, quite incredible the number of Newcastle United domestic wins this 2024/25 season, compare it to past recent seasons:
14 wins – 2019/20
14 wins – 2020/21
13 wins – 2021/22
24 wins – 2022/23
23 wins – 2023/24
29 wins – 2024/25 (with two matches still to go)
Also worth pointing out that Newcastle United are now also the second top goalscorers in the Premier League, Liverpool top that as well with 83 goals in 36 PL matches, whilst all the rest of the PL clubs are behind Newcastle’s total of 68 Premier League goals so far.
