AC Milan’s game against Venezia is scheduled for tomorrow, more specifically the early kick-off slot, and we have identified five key battles that could win or lose the game for the Rossoneri.

Enthusiasm has been somewhat restored among the Milan fans after the 3-0 win against Inter on Wednesday, making it 4-1 on aggregate. However, it will be important to avoid a so-called hangover performance tomorrow, as they need to keep the momentum going.

As always, even though the Rossoneri are the clear favourites, there are a few key battles that we should take a look at before the action starts…

The key battles

Starting from the back, Fikayo Tomori has done well in the last few games and he will be up against Mikael Egill Ellertsson on that right-hand side. The latter has the ability to get into the box, as seen with his goal against Juventus, and the Englishman will have to keep a close eye on him.

Further up the pitch, as the deep-sitting midfielder for Venezia, Hans Caviglia will be tasked with keeping his composure and ensuring his side can have longer spells of possession. The master dispossessor, as such, in Youssouf Fofana will look to make the Juventus loanee a target.

Moving on to key battles from Milan’s perspective in the attacking phase, as the game will largely be decided by those, Alessio Zerbin will have to give Joel Schingtienne a lot of support against Theo Hernandez, who surely will look to continue his good form against the Veneto side.

One would have to assume that Tijjani Reijnders will continue to have a relatively free role in midfield, taking on runs when given the chance and opening up space for his teammates. As the leader of the Venezia midfield, at least by experience, Gianluca Busio will have to put in a shift to stop him.

Finally, seeing as Luka Jovic has been in red-hot form lately, Venezia’s centre-back Jay Idzes might be in for a difficult game. We have seen that the Serbian likes to drop down to stretch the defence, while he isn’t exactly afraid of taking the battles in the penalty box either.
