Manchester United sold Scott McTominay in the summer and the midfielder has settled in at Napoli like a fish in water.

The Scotland international has quickly become one of Napoli’s star players, starting regularly under Antonio Conte and proving to be a goalscoring force from midfield.

A lot has been written about McTominay since he left United in the summer. The Reds have continued to struggle, and they no longer have McTominay’s goals off the bench to rely on.

Napoli are on top of Serie A and McTominay has started every league game except one since he signed.

United received a fixed fee of €30.5 million for McTominay on transfer deadline day and inserted a 10% sell-on clause into the deal.

The sale of the academy graduate represented total profit as per the Profit and Sustainability rules (PSR).

While many felt United negotiated a good deal for the 27-year-old, there was still a feeling of loss and then-manager Erik ten Hag stressed that he didn’t want to lose McTominay.

McTominay is currently on international duty with Scotland and the press wasted no time asking him about United.

He was asked for his opinion on United fans saying that he shouldn’t have been sold.

“Obviously it was a big decision,” McTominay said, as per Manchester Evening News. “But I don’t read the newspapers or social media. That’s something I stay well away from. There’s no reason for me to pay attention to that.

“The past is the past. I’m enjoying my football and just want to do everything in my powers to push my team higher up the table and do my best for my manager in Italy as well.

“I’ve got great people around me who help me so much and the stress in my life is very minimal because I’ve got a really good family, amazing friends and a lovely girlfriend who do so much for me.

“I’m very grateful for them. It’s not easy going abroad and having to settle in but it’s been quite seamless to be fair in terms of how much the Italian people have helped me settle into my house and whatever. Things I need, like a car or a taxi or anything like that. So, yeah, I’m very grateful to them.”
