We have asked a number of Newcastle United fans some questions following the conclusion of the internationals.

This of course follows the triumph at Wembley and in advance of the return to action in the Premier League.

So we have asked some regular and irregular contributors to The Mag, some trophy winning and also aspiring to the Champions League questions.

Our thanks to all who have taken part.

First up with his answers is Davey Hat-Trick:

Three words that come to mind now, having won that League Cup Final against Liverpool at Wembley?

Satisfied, vindicated, joyful.

Which five players, in order, were key to that win at Wembley?

Joelinton, Burn, Isak, Livramento, Trippier.

Although I could pick any five in any order. It was the perfect team performance.

Which player most surprised you with how well he played in that final?

Difficult choice between Tripps and Tino.

Trippier rolled back the years and set the tone in the first 20 minutes.

Tino reduced Salah’s xG to 0.0 (it’s true), and got forward at every opportunity.

Two potential weak links were two of the best players on the park.

Predict the results for the final 10 NUFC matches:

Wednesday 2 April – Newcastle v Brentford DRAW. The celebrations will fatigue us

Monday 7 April – Leicester v Newcastle WIN. I’d rest Gordon, even though he’s available. We can win without him.

Sunday 13 April – Newcastle v Man U WIN. We’ll be bang up for this.

Wednesday 16 April – Newcastle v Palace DRAW. Palace are good.

Saturday 19 April – Villa v Newcastle DRAW. Villa play us between PSG away and Man City away

Saturday 26 April – Newcastle v Ipswich WIN. Surely…

Sunday 4 May – Brighton v Newcastle LOSS. They’ll be too much for us

Saturday 10 May – Newcastle v Chelsea (TBC) WIN. Could go either way, but we’ll edge it

Sunday 18 May – Arsenal v Newcastle (TBC) DRAW. The league will have gone for Arsenal by then

Sunday 25 May – Newcastle v Everton WIN. Sun will be out, it’s a bank holiday weekend. Everyone will have been on the peeve for 48 hours. We’ll be watching our Wembley heroes before they disappear for three months. The atmosphere will overwhelm Everton, who’ll have nowt to play for. Get into them!

(ED: So that makes it five wins, four draws and one defeat in the final 10 matches, which would see Newcastle United end the season on 66 points)

In what order do you think the top half of the Premier League table will be at the end of the season?

1. Liverpool

2. Arsenal

3. Man City

4. Newcastle

5. Forest

6. Chelsea

7. Villa

8. Brighton

9. Bournemouth

Do you think winning the Carabao Cup will now help or hinder Newcastle’s chances of top five and a Champions League place?

It won’t make any difference.

I think we’ll struggle against Brentford after the energy-sapping distraction of the cup celebration, then it’ll be business as usual

Gun to the head, if only one of the two was to stay at Newcastle United this summer, would you keep Alexander Isak or Eddie Howe?

Isak. Only because he’d be harder to replace than Eddie Howe.

Arsenal, Liverpool, manure and others are after a striker, and he’ll be getting noticed in Barcelona, Madrid, Munich etc.

Keeping him will be a test of the ownership.

Obviously, Eddie is perfect for this club and this group, but if he did go, he’d leave a legend.

The bizarre John Barnes reaction to Newcastle United winning the League Cup Final, was to declare that if losing the final 10 Premier League matches, Eddie Howe should be sacked. What is your reaction to what Barnes said?

Regardless of your personal opinions of them, there are a group of pundits who are secure in their positions (Shearer, Neville, Henry, Keane et al), and for the most part try to give a balanced view of matters football.

There are others (Cundy, Agbondlahor, Sutton etc) who are desperate for the bright lights, and will say anything idiotic if it keeps their names on people’s lips. John Barnes is one of them. He’s skint, and he needs the publicity.

Any manager losing ten on the bounce would be in trouble, but as you say, it’s just a bizarre thing to say. Maybe he’s a bit thick. Should stick to rapping.

Who are the eight current Newcastle United players, in order, who Newcastle United most need to keep for next season?

Isak, Tonali, Gordon, Tino, Hall, Botman (assuming he can get and stay healthy), Bruno, Joelinton. I predict that Miley will slip into that group over the next 12 months.

This transfer window is the most important since the new owners came in.

I see six or seven outgoings (including keepers and out-of-contracts), plus maybe a couple more. And if I understand FFP and PSR rules correctly, we’ll have a decent war chest at our disposal this summer.

I have been extremely unimpressed with Paul Mitchell’s performance so far (Dan Ashworth was/is a snake, but he was good at his job), and this is his chance to justify his wages.

He needs to convince our blue-riband players that they are playing for a club with serious aspirations. Another window of failure and I wouldn’t blame Isak et al for calling their agents.
