Elye Wahi (22) was one of the latest players to find himself subject to the revolving door policy at Olympique de Marseille after he was sold to Eintracht Frankfurt only six months after arriving in La Provence.

The striker was signed in the summer from RC Lens as a replacement for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (35) in a big money move. Marseille dipped into their purse to pull out around €30 million (including bonuses and add-ons), and while he scored on his debut for the club against Stade Brestois, he was unable to live up to the fee in his short stint.

Patience waned in the south as Wahi delivered an outlay of only three goals and one assist in 14 games. It was a situation that left Roberto De Zerbi trusting instead in his back-up striker Neal Maupay (28) over his would-be star man.

In an interview with L’Équipe, Wahi revealed his frustrations with how his time at Marseille went. “I’ll tell you frankly, I was a little disappointed. I didn’t think it would end so quickly. When you arrive at a club, you don’t want to leave after six months. We had to find a new environment very quickly. We tried to find the best solution. For me that was Frankfurt.”

Wahi further added context to his short stay in the south, “That’s the life of a big club. You have to prove your worth right away. Unfortunately, they didn’t give me a chance, but that’s ok. Now, I want to take the time to develop little by little.”
