Real Madrid target Alphonso Davies has suddenly taken a U-turn towards a renewal at Bayern Munich and reports this week relayed that Los Blancos can all but forget any hopes they had of landing him in June.
The development leaves Carlo Ancelotti and co. in a fix, for they were desperately looking for a more attacking left-back ahead of next season who could replace Ferland Mendy at the club.
Such was their confidence in signing Davies, however, that they have not been extensively linked with a backup name thus far and will now have to go all out identifying potential profiles that may be available.
Madrid Universal brings you three such names who Real Madrid can pursue in the summer transfer window.

The Real Madrid academy graduate has perhaps been the sole left-back to be extensively linked with Real Madrid alongside Alphonso Davies in recent months, and rightfully so.
After all, the youngster has established himself as one of the best full-backs in La Liga since signing for Girona and has always made a strong case to return home.
In 18 La Liga appearances so far this season, the 23-year-old has scored one goal and provided four assists and the Real Madrid hierarchy value him for his ability to attack aggressively while staying defensively sound.
Real Madrid have a clause to sign him back for just €8 million next summer and with Davies unlikely to arrive, it would make sense for the Spanish capital club to consider activating that buyback option for their former player.

The Paris Saint-Germain left-back has also risen to the top as one of the best young players in his department and is rightfully on the radars of Real Madrid.
At just 22 years of age, he has established himself as a reliable starter in Europe’s elite. In 20 appearances across all competitions this season, the Portuguese international has two goals and two assists to his name.
What makes him an attractive target for the men in white, however, is his contractual situation. Now in the final 18 months of his deal in France, the player can threaten to leave for a bargain fee.
Come June, Mendes will be in the final year of his contract, and should he get Real Madrid’s interest, could become a serious target. However, the strained relationship between Los Blancos and PSG could make a deal difficult to pull off.

One of the lesser-known names on the world map, Milos Kerkez is a 21-year-old young left-back talent who has been plying his trade and shining bright for Bournemouth this season.
The youngster has shown a great understanding of his offensive and defensive responsibilities and has two goals and three assists in just 22 league games this season.
While the Hungarian star may not be a household name already, at 21 years old, he fits into Real Madrid’s recruitment strategy.
As such, the Merengues can look to mould him to their liking given his age and can thus look towards him as a long-term solution to their left-back situation.
