The win saw Chris Davies' side reach the knockout stages of the competition after topping Group A of the Southern Section, and they'll be fighting on two fronts as they strive to win the League One title.

The comprehensive win saw Birmingham get back on track after a draw against Mansfield in the league on Saturday, and it was an exciting evening for the 6,000 Bluenoses in attendance, who saw their side score seven goals in one game for the first time in three decades.

It appears that it wasn't just supporters who enjoyed the result either, with Brady making the effort to show his support from across the pond.

Brady, who became a minority owner of the club in the summer of 2023, took to his Instagram story on Tuesday night after the full-time whistle to celebrate the result.

He posted a story to his 15.1 million followers which showed the full-time result, adding the simple "KRO" caption, a small gesture but one that shows how much he actually cares.

Celebrities posting on Instagram about EFL Trophy games isn't what you see every day, but Brady seems to genuinely care about the club, despite his minority stake.

No doubt the former NFL star would love a trip to Wembley later this season to watch his side, and he'll be hoping that Birmingham can negotiate the knockout rounds in the coming months and reach the final of the EFL Trophy in what could be a rare chance to win it, given they look destined to return to the Championship.

Blues have twice lifted the trophy before, in 1991 and 1995, the latter being the last time the club actually played in the tournament after spending the following years in the Premier League and the Championship, and a trip to Wembley to watch them lift silverware would be a welcome boost.

There's a long way to go yet, but Brady will be keeping a close eye on Birmingham's cup run in the hope of a Wembley final, and it looks like he could enjoy a successful second season as part of the club.

Chris Davies will be targeting EFL Trophy success for Birmingham City

Of course, the priority for Davies this season is winning promotion to the Championship, but given the quality and depth of Birmingham's squad, they could certainly sustain a run in the EFL Trophy too.

It offers the club a realistic chance of silverware and a day out at Wembley, and you can see by his squad selections in the tournament that he's taking it seriously.

Despite playing an under-21's side, Davies had the likes of Jay Stansfield, Alfie May, and Willum Willumsson in the starting XI, just to name a few, and as we reach the business end of the competition, you can expect Birmingham to name some strong sides.
