Tottenham Can Wait Longer For Trophy Insists Manchester United Star | OneFootball

Manchester United midfielder Christian Eriksen has insisted that though Tottenham Hotspur‘s wait for a trophy has gone on for too long, they can win something next year, not this time.

The two sides, who have endured nothing but pain this year, are set to meet in the Europa League final in Bilbao this evening.

There will be a lot at stake beyond just the trophy as winning would mean a spot in next season’s Champions League and a major financial boost.

Eriksen, who spent seven years of his career with the London-based club, insists that he is a Tottenham supporter in every aspect but cannot be one on Wednesday, given that they are playing against his current team.

The focus, according to the experienced midfielder, has to be on his own team and not the opponents.

“Yes, that’s special. I support Tottenham in everything, but not in this final”, Eriksen was quoted as saying by Dutch magazine Voetbal International.

Reflecting on the struggles of Tottenham to win a trophy, Eriksen insisted that he feels for them, but they can do it next year and not this time.

“I know what that club has been through. I had a great time there, but a trophy was still missing.

“We need to focus on ourselves and win that cup.

“Tottenham can win a trophy next year as far as I’m concerned.”

The Denmark international, who played 305 games in a Tottenham shirt, could feature for the 107th time for Manchester United in the final.

Eriksen has had nine outings in Manchester United’s Europa League campaign, though he was an unused substitute in both legs of the semi-final win over Athletic Bilbao.

Featuring against Spurs in the final could be an emotional experience for Eriksen given his prior association with the north London club.
