Tottenham interested in a clear Dominic Solanke upgrade at striker

This past summer transfer window, Tottenham decided to sign an out-and-out No. 9 in an attempt to replace the production at the position lost by Harry Kane. Son Heung-min had actually moved into the 9 role in the 2023/24 campaign and rebounded quite nicely in this position under Ange Postecoglou, but Tottenham wanted to add a true striker into the mix.
So they went out and spent a whopping 65 million pounds on Dominic Solanke, paying well above market value for a striker with no proven goal-scoring record, just one good season at the Premier League level, and no real future resale value.
The move has predictably blown up in Spurs faces. Only the most deluded of fans can try to argue that Solanke has played well this season. Tottenham have disappointed in all phases, and Solanke's all-around play really just means that he's not particularly good at anything, especially not scoring.
Tottenham need a better striker, and according to a report from BILD in Germany, Tottenham are interested in signing one of their current opponents, Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitke, who is also wanted by rivals Arsenal.
Ekitike obviously had a great first leg performance at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but Spurs are wisely interested in Ekitike for more reasons than just one game. He has been excellent all season long and has maintained his level even without Omar Marmoush, who joined Premier League side Manchester City in the January transfer window.
The 22-year-old French international has doubled Solanke's goal total in league play this season with 14 goals, as well as seven goal contributions in the Europa League. He is averaging a healthy 1.6 dribbles completed and 1.4 key passes per game, legitimately providing better all-around creative and dribbling contributions than Solanke.
Other than physicality, Solanke has nothing on Ekitike. The French striker is a much better scorer and finisher, quicker on the ball, more active off it, and just as good in the air. Ekitike is everything Tottenham thought Solanke would be - and everything that he isn't.
Tottenham need to go after premium young strikers with world-class ability who can actually score. Ekitike is that guy, whereas all Solanke can do is hold-up play and knock balls down in the box. He can do little else and is more of a mid-table Premier League striker than someone who could compete at the Champions League level. And, well, I guess that's partially why Tottenham are 15th in the table.
