Like everyone else in the AC Milan squad, with the exception of Tijjani Reijnders and Christian Pulisic, Mike Maignan has had tough moments this season. Yet, the club are ready to put their faith in him.

Tuttosport (via MilanNews) recall this morning that the start of 2025 has been very complicated for Maignan, the captain of Milan who on several occasions has been the protagonist of very disappointing performances, with errors like the one against Feyenoord proving costly.

However, in the last few games of the season, Maignan has returned to being ‘Magic Mike’, saving everything that could be saved not only against Fiorentina and Inter. He kept his team afloat also against Napoli and Como, with little help in front of him.

In short, the French goalkeeper seems to have found his feet after a period in which he was unrecognisable. Milan can only gain from this, not only on a sporting level, but also in terms of charisma and leadership within the dressing room.

After getting the answers he needed on the pitch, the club are ready to sit down at the negotiating table with Maignan and his agents to discuss the final details of his contract renewal. There is already a basic agreement to extend his deal until 2029, doubling his salary from €2.8m to €5m net per year.

The Rossoneri management put things on pause after finding a meeting point on the salary because they wanted to see proof on the field that he would return to being the ‘real Maignan’ and would be worth the financial commitment. What is happening could lead to a turning point.
