Joshua Zirkzee was cheered off by Manchester United fans after being withdrawn in just the 33rd minute at home to Newcastle United.
The forward was deployed in the No.10 role behind counterpart Rasmus Hojlund and proceeded to make only 14 touches in the entirety of his cameo, made three out of his nine accurate passes attempted and lost possession seven times.
Alas, after Ruben Amorim had evidently seen enough, Kobbie Mainoo was called upon to replace Zirkzee. The substitution was met with loud jeers from the home supporters, which is perhaps why the Dutchman decided to head straight down the tunnel instead of sitting with his team on the bench.
He did return to the touchline a few minutes after, although Gary Neville believes the player would’ve only done so after being instructed to by a member of staff in the changing room.

“I actually feel sorry for Joshua Zirkzee,” the ex-United skipper said on Sky Sports commentary. “He was bought for big money, but there is a human being in there. He is essentially being cheered off by his own fans. He has not been good, but they’ve all been poor.
“You are watching the worst pound-for-pound team in the country.”
It’s safe to say that it’s been nothing short of calamitous for Amorim and his men. As such, they’re now on course to sustain a sixth defeat of December alone.
