Scorers: Biyendolo 1', Cooper 68'; Heyman 80'
The United States Women made it two wins in two during group stage play of the SheBelieves Cup after a narrow 2-1 win over Australia at State Farm Stadium.
Veteran forward Lynn Biyendolo got the US off on the right foot after bagging the opening goal in the first minute, with Emma Hayes' troops on the hunt for a comfortable result to guarantee their winning start continued.
The Stars and Stripes were met with little resistance across the opening half of play during what was a typical and expected dominant showing in front of home support.
Michelle Cooper doubled their lead in the 68th minute; a first senior international goal for the 22-year-old Kansas City Current striker.
That would be more than enough for the United States to guarantee all three points, but Australia did make things interesting late on in the final minutes.
An 80th-minute goal by Australia veteran Michelle Heyman managed to peg one back for the Matildas after beating US shot-stopper Mandy McGlynn with the only shot on target Thomas Sermanni's team could muster.
Hayes' side would hold on despite the late surge, however, setting up a final group stage clash against high-scoring Japan, who have found the back of the net on eight occasions across group play.
