Wales manager Craig Bellamy has claimed that Manchester United youngster Gabriele Biancheri is not ready for the rigours of first team football.

The 18 year old has represented Wales at under 17 and 19 level.

He has scored an impressive eight goals in 10 matches at under 19 level and has also impressed for his club.

Biancheri has been in irresistible form for the United academy this season, finding the back of the net almost at will.

He scored a total of 21 goals and provided six assists in 35 academy games this season at both under 18 and 21 level.

There has been recent drama around his international future however, as he has accepted a call-up from the senior Canadian national team next month owing to his mother’s citizenship.

In response to this decision, The Manchester Evening News carry comments from the Welsh manager claiming that the United starlet is not yet ready for senior football.

He stated, “I like people having options, it’s healthy. He’s not ready for our squad yet.”

Nonetheless, Bellamy has not yet given up on tempting Biancheri back into the Welsh set up.

He claimed, “it’s something he’d like to go and have a look at, but I like to think we have done our work as well. At the end the decision will be his.”

Bellamy reiterated his point by asserting, “he knows where we are and where he is. He’s not ready for first-team football with us at this moment.”

The Canadian boss Jesse Marsch has lavished the forward with praise and described him as “a technically gifted player”.

While the Canadians are reportedly “increasingly confident” of winning the race, Biancheri’s international future is still unclear.
