Francesco Camarda was inches away from becoming the youngest ever goalscorer in the history of the Champions League last night against Club Brugge.

In the 75th minute with the score 3-1 in favour of Milan, Camarda made history by becoming the youngest ever Italian player to appear in the Champions League, coming on for Alvaro Morata to a brilliant reception.

There were incredible scenes when the 16-year-old headed in a corner a few minutes from time after a short corner, with the striker taking his shirt off and being raised aloft by his team-mates, before VAR intervened to give offside.

After the game Camarda called it the best day of his life and expressed his disappointment that his goal was called off. He also went over to hug his mother and father, who watched the game pitchside.

Given the current record holder is Ansu Fati – who scored against Inter at San Siro on 10 December 2019 – at 17 years and 40 days, he has some time yet.
