Bruno Fernandes revealed Ruben Amorim was ‘very upset’ at half time as Manchester United battled back from 2-0 down to earn a point at Goodison Park.

United were miles off it in the first 45 and trailed to goals from Beto and Abdoulaye Doucouré at the break, before Fernandes struck a sublime free kick to give the visitors a lifeline.

Manuel Ugarte smashed home the equaliser but Everton were perhaps unfortunate to have been denied a stoppage-time penalty after Ashley Young was seemingly fouled.

Captain Fernandes slammed the first-half performance and believes United need to do much more and control games from the start.

“We have to do much more, me first,” he admitted.

“Everyone has to lift standards of each other and end the season in the best way possible.

“We had our chances second half but we started late. We didn’t have enough movement. We need to start the games better.

“Every time we concede a goal and we are down is when we start playing and taking risks.”

Fernandes confessed that United are in a ‘very bad situation’ and says they cannot wait for a half-time rollicking in order to up their performance levels.

“We are in a really bad position in the league, we are doing very bad,” he continued.

“It’s normal that he can say something that makes a headline because at Manchester United it is like that.

“I have been here a long time now and we have to realise how bad the situation is. We shouldn’t need the manager to say something in order for us to improve to the standard that the manager demands.”

On a brighter note, United scored two goals from set pieces and Fernandes believes it’s something they need to exploit more going forward.

“We need to score more from these situations,” he continued.

“We need to be more aggressive and understand our positions when we attack. We scored from two set pieces today and obviously, it is really good but we need to improve a lot if we are going to get out of this situation.

“We need to be aware that the situation we are in is very, very bad.”
