Another Norwich City player has been added to their growing list of injury issues

Norwich City’s José Córdoba has pulled out of Panama’s international double header but there is optimism that it may only be precautionary, with Panama boss Thomas Christiansen revealing the decision was made as a result of recent tests.

According to Pink Un, the defender will be absent from the national side’s upcoming friendlies against the United States and Canada.

Córdoba has impressed since joining the Canaries over the summer from Levski Sofia, having featured in seven of their opening nine league games this season (all stats from Fbref).

The 23-year-old made his debut for Norwich coming off the bench in a 2-2 draw against Blackburn Rovers in August and has since made four starts in the Championship.

However, he limped off with injury during their 1-1 draw against Leeds United prior to the international break, although played the full 90 minutes in their subsequent 4-0 win over Hull City.

While it was hoped that Córdoba could compete for Panama following his 90-minute performance against the Tigers last weekend, he has now pulled out of the squad with injury.

It has been reported that there is optimism that this is just a precautionary issue and that he will be ready to play again soon.

However, it is understood that he missed training prior to the game with the United States and will play no part this weekend after further assessment.

Christiansen also provided an update on the situation surrounding Córdoba.

He claimed that the 90 minutes he played against Hull led to their decision to call him up, but that once he arrived with the group it was clear that he wasn’t ready to compete.

"He received a blow before the last game, but he had just played the 90 minutes,” said the Panama manager, via Pink Un.

“That's why we didn't hesitate to call him, but when we arrived we did some tests to see how his knee was and they advised us, and we think it's best, that he doesn't participate in both games.”

Latest Norwich injury blow

Córdoba is the latest potential injury blow for Norwich, who have also seen two other players already pulling out of international duty this month.

Angus Gunn and Marcelino Nunez have both returned to Carrow Road, with the Scot suffering a muscle injury in his ribs.

Meanwhile, Nunez has an issue with his hamstring, so has withdrawn from the Chile side.

They have joined the likes of Ashley Barnsley, Tony Springett, Onel Hernandez and Liam Gibbs on the sidelines.

Córdoba injury would be a blow for Norwich

Córdoba has emerged as an important part of Johannes Hoff Thorup’s first team side since joining in the summer.

The left-back has performed well and has contributed to the side’s turnaround in recent form.

The hope will be that this is just a precautionary measure and that he will be ready for Norwich’s return to action next week against Stoke City.

The Canaries already have a long list of injury issues, and this international break has only made matters worse so far with Nunez and Gunn also added to the sidelines.
