In a recent report, journalists Danny Rust and Dean Jones claimed that West Ham United are eager to land Burnley midfielder Josh Brownhill. It has been mentioned that the Hammers are ready to offer the English talent a chance to make a switch to the London Stadium if he is willing to run down his contract at the Lancashire club.

Brownhill’s Impressive Form In English Football

Brownhill is having an excellent campaign in the EFL Championship and has managed to put in a string of impressive displays at the heart of Burnley’s midfield. The English midfield ace has scored 16 goals and secured five assists in 42 matches for his current employers this season across various competitions.

The 29-year-old has been a positive influence at both ends of the field as he is averaging 1.5 tackles, 0.8 interceptions, 1.3 clearances, 1.5 shots and 1.1 key passes per 90 minutes in the EFL Championship. He has even distributed the ball well from midfield after making 81.2% of his attempted passes in the second tier of English football (stats via whoscored).

His current contract at Turf Moor will run out at the end of this season which could give West Ham a chance to sign him on a free transfer this summer.

Should West Ham United Boss Graham Potter Snap Brownhill Up?

Brownhill is a good tackler of the ball and can make a few crucial interceptions for his team in the middle of the park. He usually clears his lines when needed and can shoot the ball with venom from long range.

The English playmaker has even got the eye to play some decisive passes in the opponent’s half. He has got some experience in the Premier League and would take much time to adapt to life at West Ham.

We can expect Brownhill to add more energy and dynamism to Graham Potter’s midfield. He is good enough to challenge for a regular first-team place at the London Stadium next season.

At 29, Brownhill is still playing in his prime and would be a good fit for West Ham’s needs in the short-term. Therefore, it makes sense for the Hammers to go all out to snap him up later this year.
