Milan could look to strengthen their midfield and attacking department during the January transfer window after an up-and-down start to Paulo Fonseca’s tenure in 2024-25, which has left the Rossoneri in eighth place in the Serie A table after the first 17 matches of the season.

If Milan are to make any signings in the January transfer window, the midfield department is likely to be the priority.

Though Tijjani Reijnders and Youssouf Fofana have proved to be successful signings so far, Fonseca has barely been able to rest either of them at any stage this season due to a lack of suitable alternatives.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek is still on the books, as is Ismael Bennacer, who has not featured since the opening game of the 2024-25 season, but could also act as a ‘new signing’ when he returns in the new year.

Several names have been linked with a move to San Siro over the last few weeks, including Genoa’s Morten Frendrup and Monza’s Warren Bondo.

There are several other positions that Milan could look to strengthen in the future, but will not necessarily be able to pull off in January.

The Rossoneri could also do with a reshuffling of their attacking department, with Noah Okafor and Samuel Chukwueze falling out of favour. A new right-back could also be on the cards if Davide Calabria does not extend his contract, which is due to expire at the end of the 2024-25 season.

There had also been talks of a new understudy to Theo Hernandez at left-back, although that has become less of a priority after the encouraging start to life in the first team made by Alex Jimenez in recent weeks.
