It was reported by Darren Witcoop earlier this month that the 42-year-old is the Tigers’ preferred choice to become the next head coach.

The Yorkshire outfit are searching for a permanent replacement for Ruben Selles, who was sacked after leading the team to survival with a 21st place finish in the Championship table.

Only a superior goal difference separated them from 22nd place Luton Town, with the club now looking towards the summer in a bid to improve the squad and climb the second division standings.

Here we look at what Muslic has said about his future at Plymouth following their relegation to League One amid this interest from Hull…

Muslic’s Plymouth future

Muslic took charge of Plymouth in January with the team in severe danger of relegation to the third tier.

Following the end of the campaign, the 42-year-old opened up on his future with the Pilgrims after that relegation was confirmed.

He claimed that he needed time to think about what’s next, suggesting he has used up all his energy in the club’s battle against the drop.

"I'm empty - we are relegated for seven or eight days, believe me I'm empty," said Muslic, via the BBC.

“That takes a lot of focus, a lot of concentration and a lot of energy.

"I don't have this energy right now, I need to go back to my family to see them, to recharge, to breathe and we have enough time to think about the future."

A 2-1 defeat at Home Park on the final day ended any faint hopes of survival, with Plymouth finishing three points adrift of Hull.

A difficult first half of the campaign under Wayne Rooney ultimately proved costly

Muslic took charge of Plymouth on 10 January, having never previously worked as a coach in English football before.

He previously worked in Austria with the likes of Floridsdorfer AC and Ried before making the switch to Cercle Brugge.

The Pilgrims were bottom of the Championship table when he took charge, with the club only on 20 points from their first 25 fixtures.

The gap to safety from the relegation zone was only three points at this stage, but 21st placed Portsmouth held a game in hand.

Plymouth ended the season with 46 points from 46 games, with Muslic’s side earning 26 points from 21 fixtures.

A rate of 1.24 points per game extrapolated to a full 46-game campaign under the Bosnian would have seen the Devon outfit earn 56 points, which would’ve put the club level on points with 15th place QPR and well clear of the bottom three.

So it’s no surprise that Hull are eyeing a move for Muslic, who won eight of his 23 games in charge of Plymouth in all competitions.

He also oversaw a famous FA Cup victory over Liverpool in the fourth round, beating the team that went on to be crowned Premier League champions before suffering defeat to Manchester City in the next round.
