‘What’s he on about’: Liverpool fans will love what Curtis Jones has said about Jurgen Klopp after win v Leicester | OneFootball

Liverpool strengthened their grip at the top of the Premier League after beating Leicester City 3-1 at Anfield on Boxing Day.

The Reds came from behind to secure all three points, with goals coming from Cody Gakpo, Curtis Jones and Mohamed Salah.

Jones marked his 100th Premier League appearance for Liverpool with a close-range finish by turning in Alexis Mac Allister’s low cross.

The Reds midfielder admitted after the game that he was not aware of the milestone and only came to know about it from his previous manager, Jurgen Klopp, who sent him a brilliant text.

Speaking to Optus Sport after the game, Jones shared his admiration for Klopp, saying the German boss is still in touch with the players and he is loved by everyone at the club.

Jones said: “It was Jurgen. I just came in then, we had a talk with the team and I just went on the phone.

“I normally text family and stuff and I saw a text from Klopp, he said ‘congrats on 100 games and here’s to 500 more’ or something like that.

“I was like what’s he on about, 100? I’m on more than that! But I just checked the Instagram and 100 games, yeah. Proud, really proud.

“He is on Instagram so he gets to see it. But that’s what he’s like, he’s still in touch with the whole team. He’s a great man and he’s still loved by us. It was him who set up the team we’ve got now, the foundation was there already and Slot’s just carried it on.”

Jones is spot on about Klopp and Liverpool

Football pundits have widely debated how Liverpool have been able to function smoothly under a new manager, carrying on from where Klopp left.

Arne Slot has admitted many times that he is very fortunate that Klopp has left him with a very good squad to work on.

In fact, the new manager didn’t even feel the need to add just more than one player in the summer, and that, too, was a risk-free, low-key signing.

Liverpool fans will love the fact that the players still see Klopp as the main architect behind the resurgence under Slot.

The German boss laid the foundation, and Slot has taken it one step further.

It has to be noted that Liverpool’s playing style under Slot is not massively different from that of Klopp.

Slot has merely tweaked a few things from Klopp’s system, and as a result, there hasn’t been any major problem with the players coping with the transition.

Liverpool are seven points clear at the top with a game in hand. They are looking favourites for the title, but the players are not getting carried away.
