Wienroither: World Sevens tournament will take me back to my childhood | OneFootball

Laura Wienroither says the World Sevens tournament will have a sense of nostalgia as the players look to enjoy every minute of the fresh format.

The competition, spanning across three days, sees eight European sides go head-to-head in a seven-a-side format.

Manchester City will face FC Rosengard in the opening fixture of the tournament on Wednesday 21 May, with kick-off set for 17:00 (UK).

We'll then come up against Ajax and Bayern Munich in our other two group stage fixtures on the following day.

“Yeah, I’m excited,” she said.

“It’s probably a bit like going back to childhood football, just having fun and enjoying football as it is without too many rules. It’ll be nice to enjoy and just have a good game with the girls.

“I’m always open to trying something new, I’ve never really played seven-a-side before so I think it will be interesting, probably different to a normal game.

Laura also explained why she's looking forward to the tournament, other than the lovely weather.

She added: “I think obviously it’s the first year where it’s going to happen. There are a lot of good people involved in the whole concept, so I think it’ll be an exciting few days.

“There are good teams participating as well, so I’m looking forward to a few days of sunshine.

“It’s always nice when you have games against good clubs and when you meet in one place at a tournament, it’ll be exciting and new for everyone, so we’re all on the same page.”
