25-year-old Barcelona forward undergoes surgery as his season comes to an end | OneFootball

The season is almost over for FC Barcelona, and they just need to take one more step towards the finish line. To do that, however, Hansi Flick would ideally like to have his entire squad available at his disposal. With just one more win needed in La Liga after the win over Real Madrid, it is now time for Barcelona to put everything they have towards that objective.

Up next for the Catalan giants is a game against RCD Espanyol away from home, and that fixture is always a complicated one. After all, as direct Catalan and Barcelona-based rivals, neither team will want to let the other side get the better of them.

Ferran Torres undergoes surgery

Unfortunately for Barcelona, however, they will be missing another important player heading into this game. As highlighted by Mundo Deportivo, 25-year-old Spanish forward Ferran Torres will be missing this upcoming game due to an appendicitis problem he was facing.

Moreover, as confirmed officially by Barcelona themselves, Torres has now also undergone surgery for it successfully. While that is great news, it does mean that he will be missing out on the remaining games this season for the Catalan giants.

That would include this upcoming match against Espanyol, as well as the two games following that against Villarreal and Athletic Club. Moreover, it reportedly will also mean that the Barcelona forward will be missing out on the Nations League with Spain as they are set to play against France on the 5th of June.

Impressive for Barcelona this season

Throughout this season, Torres has been nothing but a consistent servant to the club. Despite not being the regular starter, he has stepped up when Barcelona have needed him to and he finishes his brilliant campaign with 19 goals and 7 assists across all competitions, with some big moments in some very crucial games as well.

Unfortunately, it now seems like the Spaniard will not be able to add to those impressive numbers. Still, his season has been more than impressive and this untimely absence will now also allow the likes of Robert Lewandowski to return to the starting eleven as well for the team.
