QPR have been told to beat their Championship rivals to the signing of Celtic winger Luis Palma, with the 25-year-old Honduras international dubbed "an exciting attacking talent."

It was reported by Football Insider that QPR, along with Championship rivals Stoke City, Swansea City and Sunderland are keen to sign Palma this month, although they are set to face competition from abroad.

The Daily Record reported that Serie A side Genoa are also keen on signing the 25-year-old this month, but QPR have been told that reinforcements in wide areas are needed this month, and Palma would be a suitable addition thanks to his impressive 2023/24 campaign in Scotland.

We asked our QPR fan pundit, Louis Moir, what he thought about Marti Cifuentes potentially bringing Palma to West London this month, and it's clear he's in favour of the deal.

Speaking to Football League World, Louis said: "I must admit I have never really heard of Luis Palma, but looking at him, he looks like an exciting attacking talent.

“The numbers he got for Celtic last season were quite impressive, he’s still a good age, and he seems like an exciting player.

"Obviously, there’s a debate about whether we need another winger with Smyth, Saito and Chair as well, they’ve been performing well, and we’ve got Dembélé coming back, so do we really need another one?

“I think we do, because if we’re in a play-off push, then you need all the depth you can get. Dembélé there’s no guarantee when he’s back. Smyth has been playing every game and getting subbed off purely because he’s exhausted, and you need fresh legs and, obviously, Saito has been more of an impact sub recently.

“I think we would definitely be in the market for another winger, whether it’s on loan or on a permanent basis, but Luis Palma looks like potentially a player to be excited about, especially with our recruitment.

“A lot of our recruitment has now sort of worked out funnily enough as players are stepping up and looking good, so I definitely think we need fresh legs, another option and I really hope we get another winger in, whether it’s Palma or someone else between now and the end of the January window.”

Luis Palma would be an excellent addition for QPR

Palma is a player who was playing and scoring in the Champions League just last season, so there should be no concerns about whether he's able to adapt to Championship level.

At the age of 25, the Honduras international is still young, and if he fulfills his clear potential, then there's no reason why he can't be sold for more money in the future, meaning he could be a real asset to QPR for a number of reasons.

Palma has struggled for playing time this season, making just 11 appearances in all competitions, just one of those a start in the Scottish Premiership, so he'll be hungry to prove a point and hit the ground running should he seal a move to Loftus Road.

With experience in top-flight leagues in Greece and Scotland, along with experience in the Europa League and Champions League, Palma would be a real asset to most Championship clubs and would certainly add further quality to Cifuentes' wide ranks.
