Despite trailing twice, AC Milan Women managed to fight back against Roma this afternoon and eventually clinched all three points. In other words, Suzanne Bakker’s side sent a big message in their pursuit of a spot in the championship round.
Following a draw against Sampdoria which was very tough to swallow, the expectations were admittedly very low as Milan headed into today’s game against third-placed Roma. Just when they needed it the most, though, the Rossonere put in a very good display.
Roma took the lead after 32 minutes through Giada Greggi, as the Milan defence switched off twice in quick succession, but thankfully the reply arrived just four minutes later through Giorgia Arrigoni. She bagged here third goal in four games as a result.
Unfortunately, just 40 seconds later (!), Roma found the back of the net again and this time it was Alice Corelli who put the ball into the back of the net. Again, the defending left a lot to be desired as you simply cannot concede so quickly after scoring.
Overall, though, the first half was positive especially in attack and it eventually paid off. Two minutes into the second half, Emma Kiovisto scored the equaliser for the Rossonere and in the 55th minute, Valentina Cernoia completed the turnaround.
A spot in the championship round is now doable for the Rossonere, with Sassuolo and Juventus remaining.
