Having only just returned from a lengthy absence due to a dislocated shoulder, Folarin Balogun (23) was once again forced to watch on for the sidelines as AS Monaco secured their place in next season’s UEFA Champions League.
The USMNT forward was injured in the final training session ahead of Saturday’s victory over Olympique Lyonnais, which secured a podium place for Les Monégasques for the second season running. The Principality club confirmed that Balogun had sustained an ankle injury but without detailing the severity of it.
However, Hütter provided reassuring news. “He couldn’t play today (Saturday) but let’s see if he is a topic next week,” said the Monaco manager in a post-match press conference attended by Get French Football News. The striker will be evaluated upon the return to first-team training on Wednesday. With Champions League football secured, Hütter has granted his squad three days off.
However, Hütter added that no risks would be taken with Balogun next weekend when Monaco face RC Lens, given that there is nothing to play for. “It isn’t too serious,” added Hütter.
