Manchester United trio Alejandro Garnacho, Kobbie Mainoo and Leny Yoro have been included in the final 20-player shortlist for the 2024 Golden Boy award.

The prize – which was established by Italian newspaper Tuttosport – seeks to identify the best under-21 footballers playing in a European top-tier.

Tuttosport officially announced the list of 25 candidates (20 finalists plus five wildcards) for the award on Thursday.

The winner will be announced on December 17 in Turin.

Despite United’s struggles last season, Garnacho enjoyed a brilliant individual campaign, in which he made 50 appearances across all competitions. He managed a tally of 10 goals and half as many assists in that period.

His haul included a strike in the FA Cup final triumph over Manchester City at Wembley.

Garnacho established his place in the team under Erik ten Hag and continues to grow in strength and stature at Old Trafford.

Like Garnacho, fellow Carrington academy graduate Kobbie Mainoo was one of the few positives during an extremely underwhelming 2023/24 season.

The midfielder broke into the senior side and in next to no time, quickly cemented his place in Ten Hag’s starting XI. Mainoo impressed with his calm and composed performances that often placed him head and shoulders above the rest of his more experienced teammates.

The 19-year-old also played a crucial role for England as they reached the final of Euro 2024, where they eventually lost to Spain.

Meanwhile, Yoro was signed by United in the summer from Ligue 1 outfit Lille. Unfortunately, Yoro has yet to make his competitive debut for the Red Devils, having picked up an injury in pre-season.

The 18-year-old is continuing with his recovery and recently gave a positive update on his fitness.
