In recent years, the division has become increasingly affluent, with teams willing to invest heavily in a bid to secure a place in the Premier League. Naturally, these high-profile signings attract intense scrutiny, particularly when it comes to the players commanding the highest wages.

With this in mind, Football League World has identified the highest-paid player at each Championship club and detailed their earnings.

Blackburn Rovers: Emmanuel Dennis

Blackburn Rovers are certainly not one of the most affluent clubs in the division, especially considering their ongoing ownership issues with the Venky's. However, they still pay a substantial weekly wage to Emmanuel Dennis, with the striker earning £40,000 a week.

Signed on loan from Nottingham Forest in January, it remains unclear whether Blackburn cover the entirety of his wages, but given the lack of clarity on this matter, he tops the list of the club's highest-paid players.

Bristol City: Nahki Wells

£27,000-a-week

Next on the list is Nahki Wells, a long-serving striker for Bristol City. The 34-year-old has been a regular in the Championship for many years and earns £27,000 a week at Ashton Gate.

Once again, City are a club that prefers to keep their wage bill under control, and given their reputation for recruiting and developing young talent, it’s no surprise to see Wells' wage standing below the £30,000 mark.

Burnley: Josh Brownhill

£45,000-a-week

Burnley's highest-paid player is the brilliant Josh Brownhill, who earns £45,000 every seven days. The midfielder has been at Turf Moor since 2020, when he made the move from the Robins for a fee of £9 million.

His time at the Clarets has been marked by consistent excellence, and it's fair to say he thoroughly deserves his weekly wage, given his role as captain and his outstanding performances on the field for the club.

Cardiff City: Aaron Ramsey

£50,000-a-week

Moving over to Wales, Cardiff City's highest-paid player is former Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey.

The 34-year-old has endured a career marred by injuries, but at his best, he is a player to be reckoned with, possessing a keen eye for a pass and the ability to score from distance.

His weekly wage stands at £50,000, a considerable sum for a club in the Championship.

Coventry City: Luis Binks

£30,000-a-week

Luis Binks was signed permanently by Coventry City in the summer of 2024 after a successful loan spell with the Sky Blues from Bologna.

The defender has played a bit-part role since Frank Lampard's arrival, and his weekly wage of £30,000 currently seems somewhat unjustified.

Derby County: Nathaniel Phillips

£65,000-a-week

Derby County's highest-paid player is Liverpool loanee Nathaniel Phillips.

The 28-year-old's contract with his parent club is understood to earn him £65,000 a week, but given that Derby's second-highest wage is £17,500, it seems unlikely they are paying more than this for the loanee.

Despite County's struggles, Phillips has had a solid season and, in the absence of Eiran Cashin, has done his best to fill the defender's shoes.

Hull City: Steven Alzate

£25,000-a-week

Steven Alzate has had a fantastic debut season in the heart of midfield for Hull City and fully deserves to be their top earner.

The former Brighton & Hove Albion player earns £25,000 per week and will be looking to carry his impressive form from the 2024-25 season into the next.

Leeds United: Patrick Bamford

£70,000-a-week

It will come as no surprise to Championship supporters that a Leeds United player features high on the list of top earners in the division.

Topping the list for the Whites is Patrick Bamford, who earns £70,000 a week at Elland Road.

This contract was signed in August 2021 while they were still in the Premier League, but the former Chelsea striker has struggled to justify that wage due to injuries and an inability to capitalise on his opportunities since then.

Luton Town: Tahith Chong, Jacob Brown, Marvelous Nakamba

Luton Town's highest earners include Tahith Chong, Jacob Brown, and Marvelous Nakamba, all topping the list.

Each of the trio earns £30,000 a week, which isn't particularly high considering the Hatters were in the Premier League just 12 months ago.

Middlesbrough: Kelechi Iheanacho

£75,000-a-week

Kelechi Iheanacho has struggled to replicate his goalscoring form at Middlesbrough.

The Nigerian striker is currently on loan from Sevilla, where his contract sees him earn £75,000 a week.

While Boro are unlikely to be paying this full amount, it's reasonable to assume that the Spanish club is making them contribute a significant portion in order to recoup some of their investment.

Millwall: Japhet Tanganga

£35,000-a-week

Millwall's highest-paid player is their summer signing from Tottenham Hotspur, Japhet Tanganga.

The commanding defender has enjoyed a fantastic season for the Lions and justifiably earns £35,000 a week at the Den.

Whether he will remain at the club beyond the summer is uncertain, as he has previously been the subject of speculation linking him to a move back to the Premier League.

Norwich City: Jack Stacey and Shane Duffy

£35,000-a-week

Jack Stacey has been at Norwich City since the summer of 2023 and is understood to be their top earner, with a weekly wage of £35,000, alongside Shane Duffy.

Both players are key figures in the Canaries' defence, with Duffy operating in the centre, while Stacey features in either full-back position.
