The international break has not been kind to German giants Bayern Munich.

The Bavarians have already lost Canadian international wingback Alphonso Davies. He will be out for at least six months after suffering an ACL injury.

But then, Bayern suffered another major injury blow. Defender Dayot Upamecano, a regular starter for Bayern, suffered a knee problem while on international duty with France.

Initially, the hope was that Upamecano would only be on the sidelines for a few weeks.

This would mean that the Frenchman would be out for the first leg of Bayern’s Champions League quarterfinal tie against Inter Milan.

This would be a huge blow already. Particularly with the loss of Davies also disrupting their backline.

But it will not just be for the first leg that Bayern have to cope without Upamecano, reports BILD.

The 26-year-old also has no hope of returning for the second leg.

Upamecano’s knee problem is more serious than had initially been suspected, the tabloid report.

That means that Upamecano will have to undergo surgery.

There will be more clarity regarding a recovery timeline once the former RB Leipzig defender goes under the knife.

But BILD report that it looks to be around three months for Upamecano.

Therefore, the Frenchman will certainly miss both matches against Inter in April.
