Liverpool boss Arne Slot has pointed to Arsenal's favourable fixture list across the final third of the season when explaining why the Premier League title race is far from over.
Slot's Reds have boasted a comfortable lead at the division's summit for much of the campaign, a gap which has remained almost untouched given every Liverpool stumble has been followed by a stagger from Arsenal.
Most advanced metrics may suggest that this is Liverpool's title to lose, but Slot is adamant that the schedule complicates matters.
When discussing Arsenal's record this season, Slot pointed out: "If you look at the games they already had [twice] - [Manchester] City, Aston Villa, Tottenham and Brighton, I think - so they have had quite a lot of teams that are doing really well so that is why it is important to try to extend the lead."
Not only have Arsenal already navigated both halves of their double-headers with those aforementioned clubs, but they have also gotten through most of their daunting away trips. Nottingham Forest and Liverpool themselves are the only two clubs currently in the top half of the table that Arsenal still have to face away from home.
Liverpool, by contrast, have to travel to Villa Park, Chelsea's Stamford Bridge and Manchester City's Etihad Stadium.
Slot was also keen to quash talk of mental fortitude. "For me it is not about psychology," the Dutch coach said. "For me it is about having nine points or six points, that is the difference, [of a] lead against teams who are able to win so many games in a row. So leave out psychology, it is just going to be crucial to have so many points as possible because the teams we face are able to win every single game in the Premier League."
