Liverpool manager Arne Slot has heaped praise on midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai after yet another dazzling display for the Reds.

The Hungarian midfielder got on the score sheet to help Liverpool secure a comprehensive 2-0 win against Newcastle United, putting them one step closer to a second Premier League title.

Szoboszlai opened the scoring only 11 minutes into the game, guiding home a cut-back from Luis Diaz before Alexis Mac Allister’s sublime finish in the second half sealed maximum points for Liverpool.

Szoboszlai has been praised for his contributions in the final third after picking up a goal and an assist in the 2-0 win against Manchester City last weekend.

However, Slot was particularly pleased with the 24-year-old’s work rate, which he believes deserves more credit than his goal.

“He has been very, very important for us the whole season,” Slot said after the game (via BBC). “This was not always seen.

“I think people talk about his goal again today, which they should because it was an important and good goal.

“But what I think helped the team even more than the goal was the way he won the second balls and won the ball back for us. He runs for two players.

“That deserves more credit than the goal, but scoring is something you need to do as an attacking midfielder wearing the Liverpool shirt.”

Liverpool’s comfortable win against the Magpies extended their already healthy lead at the Premier League summit to 13 points.

They have Nottingham Forest to thank for holding title challengers Arsenal to a goalless draw at City Ground, which helped the Reds go one step closer to the holy grail.

Liverpool have been nothing short of spectacular this season. They deserve to be champions and could wrap up the Premier League title over the next couple of games.

Slot’s side are at home against Championship-bound Southampton in their next Premier League outing.
