Arne Slot says Mohamed Salah’s Ballon d’Or ambitions are justified as the Liverpool star prepares to cap off a title-winning season with Sunday’s finale against Crystal Palace.

The Liverpool manager spoke at length about Salah’s impact during their triumphant campaign, describing it as one of the Egyptian’s finest at the club.

Slot believes the winger has every reason to dream of football’s top individual honour.

“He’s had very, very good seasons before,” Slot admitted. “But this one stands out, especially with us winning the league. If there’s ever been a real chance for him to win the Ballon d’Or, it’s this season.”

Slot praised Salah’s hunger to push beyond even his own high standards. “It’s almost impossible to improve on these numbers individually,” he said.

“But his elite mentality means he’ll try again. That’s what makes him world-class.”

As Liverpool prepare to lift the Premier League trophy in front of a full Anfield for the first time, Slot admitted he is still undecided on whether Trent Alexander-Arnold will feature.

But he made it clear the full-back deserves to be part of the day.

“Trent deserves to be there,” Slot added. “He’s been a huge part of our success this year and over the years. The fans, the staff and the players – everyone should enjoy the moment.”

Slot also provided an update on Joe Gomez’s fitness, suggesting a decision would be made closer to kickoff. Reflecting on his emotions ahead of the trophy lift, Slot admitted he feels immense pride.

“The Premier League is the hardest trophy to win,” he said. “Thirty-eight games in a league this strong – it means everything.”

Looking ahead, the Liverpool boss believes sustained success is possible but depends on whether the squad possesses a ‘serial winner’ mentality.

Slot confirmed he has been speaking regularly with Alexander-Arnold as the pair navigate a unique chapter together.

“I speak to Trent often,” he said. “There are things I know that others don’t – that’s the bond between a coach and a player.”

As for tactical notes, Slot was encouraged by Dominik Szoboszlai’s deeper role against Brighton & Hove Albion, but remains undecided on his long-term position.

For now, attention turns to Sunday – a celebration of a historic season and the start of a new chapter.
