Arsenal are considered the ‘hottest contender’ to sign one of RB Leipzig’s prized assets this summer, according to Sport Bild (page 30).
The Gunners have been tipped to land a new striker for the past year, and they are expected to spend big on a marquee signing in the next transfer window.
Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko is one of the top names on their radar, and SportBild claim that the club are the front-runners to land his signature later this year.
However, they are not alone in the pursuit with Real Madrid and Chelsea also monitoring him closely.
It was recently reported that Sesko has a gentleman’s agreement to leave for £58 million, but Leipzig are hoping for a bidding war to secure as much as £83m.
The Gunners were keen on landing Sesko’s signature last summer, but he was reluctant to leave Leipzig.
The Slovenian had second thoughts over a move to the Emirates Stadium, considering the excellent form of Kai Havertz during the back end of the previous campaign.
Sesko ended up penning a new long-term deal, but he is anticipated to leave Leipzig this summer.
We believe the 21-year-old would be a perfect acquisition for the Gunners. He has the same number of goals as Havertz for the season (15), but he is more efficient.
Sesko, who is ‘extremely quick‘, according to Christopher Vivell, has a shot-to-goal conversion rate of 26 percent in the Bundesliga with seven big chances missed.
In comparison, Havertz has converted only 17 percent of his shots into goals. The German has been guilty of squandering 15 clear-cut chances in the league campaign.
Sesko would be an upgrade with his better finishing skills. He also possesses a superb work rate and likes to high press his opponents throughout the full 90 minutes.
Regardless of the price tag, the Gunners must swoop for Sesko, having pursued his signature in the last two transfer windows.
