Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta is not yet sure whether Gunners captain Martin Odegaard will be able to return in time to face Inter Milan.

The coach gave an update on the Norwegian’s fitness in a press conference, as reported by FCInterNews. Arsenal’s Champions League showdown with the Nerazzurri is looming, less than three weeks away.

Next month, Arsenal travel to Milan to take on Inter.

This will be, on paper, certainly one of both teams’ biggest matches of the “league phase” of the Champions League this season.

Inter have already faced one Premier League giant in the form of Manchester City. They took a previous point away from the Etihad after a 0-0 draw.

Meanwhile, Arsenal got a 0-0 draw of their own. They faced Italian opposition in the form of Atalanta.

And the North London giants got an impressive win over Paris Saint-Germain in their second match of the season in the competition.

Arsenal Coach Arteta Not Yet Sure If Martin Odegaard Will Be Fit For Inter Milan Clash

Naturally, both Inter and Arsenal will be hoping to have their key players available for next month’s match.

For the Nerazzurri, there are a couple injury absences currently. Piotr Zielinski, Kristjan Asllani, and Tajon Buchanan are all out although all should be back soon.

A lot can change with three intense weeks to come, though.

Meanwhile, Arsenal’s most notable absence has been that of their captain, former Real Madrid midfielder Martin Odegaard.

The Norwegian has been out for more than a month with an ankle sprain.

Odegaard should not be on the sidelines for all that much longer.

But with the match against Inter less than three weeks away, it is hardly clear that the 25-year-old will be back.

“There’s confidence that he can return before the next international break,” Arsenal coach Arteta said of Odegaard.

“We’ll see next week.”

The Gunners boss added that “He definitely won’t be fit for the next match.”
