Arsenal head into the first international break of 2025 with renewed optimism after snapping a three-game winless run in the Premier League. A hard-fought 1-0 victory over Chelsea, secured by Mikel Merino’s header from a Martin Ødegaard corner, provided a timely boost.
Mikel Arteta’s side remain 12 points adrift of league leaders Liverpool, making a title push improbable. However, securing Champions League football remains within reach, and the European stage presents the most realistic chance of ending the season with silverware. With that in mind, injury updates on key players could play a decisive role in Arsenal’s ambitions.
Arsenal’s talisman Bukayo Saka is making encouraging strides in his rehabilitation, with Arteta providing a promising update on the winger’s progress. The England international has been working diligently to regain fitness ahead of the crucial Champions League clash against Real Madrid.
“He is going to be here [at the Arsenal training ground], hopefully more with the ball at his feet than he has had,” Arteta confirmed ahead of Arsenal’s win over Chelsea.

“That will mean he is passing the ball and shooting and running and everything. He has done quite a lot already on the pitch working on his own.
“Next, we need to arrange it with people around him in a more competitive training session and see how he goes with that.
“He’s getting closer, he’s stepping up and making very good progress, I would say. So, let’s see when we start to throw him in with the team, how he reacts and how fit he can get quickly.”
Potential return date: April 2025
The news is far less encouraging for Kai Havertz, who has been sidelined for the remainder of the campaign following a hamstring injury sustained during a training session in Dubai. The German forward’s absence leaves Arsenal short on attacking options at a crucial point in the season.

Havertz, who underwent surgery, took to Instagram to express his emotions: “The last few days have been tough to process both physically and mentally. But yesterday was a good day. A successful op and a win.
“Thanks for all the messages of support over the last few days, it’s really helped. I’m now focused on my journey to full fitness and giving all the support I can give to the team in the background.”
Potential return date: Summer 2025
Another blow for Arsenal comes in the form of Gabriel Jesus’ long-term injury. The Brazilian forward suffered an ACL injury during Arsenal’s FA Cup defeat to Manchester United in January and underwent surgery shortly after.

Jesus later shared an update on social media, posting a picture of himself leaving the hospital with the caption: “There will always be answers to everything, which we will only know later on. I believe and trust in God.”
Potential return date: Unknown
Takehiro Tomiyasu’s season has been marred by persistent injuries, with the Japanese defender managing just six minutes of action before requiring knee surgery. Determined to return stronger, Tomiyasu provided an update on his situation via Instagram.
“I’ve had a surgery on my knee a few days ago and I’ve already started my rehab to do what I love the most again.
“It has been the toughest period in my career for sure and it carries on a bit more but I won’t give up. Thank you for your support and see you again.”
Potential return date: Unknown
With Arsenal still in contention for European glory, the return of Bukayo Saka could be a timely boost for Mikel Arteta’s side. However, the long-term absences of Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus highlight the squad’s depth issues as they prepare for a crucial run-in.
As the international break provides players with a chance to recover, Arsenal fans will be hoping for further positive news on Saka’s fitness, with the hope that he can play a decisive role in the latter stages of the season.
