Manchester United are reportedly trailing in the race for Dusan Vlahovic, with Arsenal emerging as the favourites to sign the Juventus striker.

According to CaughtOffside, the Gunners are set to hold talks for the 25-year-old who would be available for €60 million next summer. The North Londoners are in dire need of a genuine centre-forward, especially with Gabriel Jesus out with an ACL injury suffered during the FA Cup contest against Man Utd in January.

With the Brazilian potentially missing the start of the upcoming campaign, Arsenal will be eager to add a new bomber to their ranks. The source also mentions interest in Newcastle United’s Aleksander Isak, but Vlahovic could be a more affordable solution.

The report also believes United are keen tabs on the Serbia international, but the Gunners have the upper hand at this stage.

Nevertheless, if you ask Serie A observers, most would agree that missing out on the underperforming Vlahovic shouldn’t be a major regret for the Red Devils. In fact, many would tell you that the club would be wise to stay as far away as possible from the centre-forward who has been increasingly out-of-sorts since making the €85 million move from Fiorentina to Juventus in January 2022.

With 86 goals and 14 assists to his name in 193 Serie A fixtures, Vlahovic’s stats aren’t terrible by any means, but his progress certainly didn’t go according to plan.

A few years back, the 25-year-old was considered the most exciting young bomber in Europe not named Erling Haaland. But in recent seasons, he has developped a knack for missing sitters and an inability to properly hold up the ball. In Man United terms, Vlahovic might be the equivalent of Rasmus Hojlund, yet another centre-forward who signed from Serie A.

Hence, the Red Devils would be better off pursuing other options, namely the Victor Osimhen or Viktor Gyokeres.
