Arsenal are interested in signing both Viktor Gyokeres and Liam Delap this summer.
A centre-forward is the priority for Arsenal in the summer transfer window, as Mikel Arteta and new sporting director Andrea Berta work together to reinforce the club’s forward line.
Arsenal have made Viktor Gyokeres their number one target and are understood to be the first side to have submitted a formal offer to Sporting CP. However, the opening bid from the North Londoners falls below the valuation of the Portuguese champions.
Gyokeres has scored 95 goals in 99 games for Sporting across the last two seasons and has a release clause of €100m (£85m) in his contract The Estádio José Alvalade. It is understood that Sporting are prepared to accept a lower fee than Gyokeres’ release clause.
Arsenal are also one of several Premier League clubs interested in Delap, who is available for £30m following Ipswich’s relegation from the Premier League. The 22-year-old has impressed in a struggling side, scoring 12 league goals.
Football Transfers claim that Arsenal want both Gyokeres and Delap, with the latter not considered an alternative. The North Londoners are open to signing both players, but have informed Delap that he would have to fight for his place and start life in North London as an understudy to Gyokeres.
Delap is in no rush to decide his future amid a wealth of interest. The England u-21 international is keen to see how the race for European qualification pans out in the Premier League before deciding his next move.
