Aston Villa and Bayer Leverkusen enter race to sign Alejandro Garnacho

Manchester United star Alejandro Garnacho is generating increasing interest ahead of the summer transfer window.
With the likes of Marcus Rashford, Antony, and Jadon Sancho clearly not part of manager Ruben Amorim’s plans, Garnacho has been a key winger for Man United since all three embarked on their loans.
This made it all the more peculiar when Amorim decided to drop Garnacho ahead of the UEFA Europa League final, with the rising star making his frustration known after the defeat.
But while Amorim seems to be willing to allow Garnacho to depart, numerous elite clubs have acknowledged the Argentine’s talent, signalling their interest in the player.
This morning, CaughtOffside reported that both Aston Villa and Bayer Leverkusen are set to enter what is already a heated transfer race.
“Sources close to the situation have informed CaughtOffside that Aston Villa are among Garnacho’s suitors this summer, while he’s also wanted by his former manager Erik ten Hag,” the report read.
“Ten Hag has just taken over as manager of Bayer Leverkusen, having been sacked by Man Utd back in October last year. The Dutch tactician immediately faces the prospect of losing star attacking midfield player Florian Wirtz, and it’s understood that he’d be keen on Garnacho as a replacement.”
Still, Leverkusen may struggle to convince United to send Garnacho their way if Ten Hag’s intentions are indeed as the article alleges. “The Argentina international is a loan target for Leverkusen, though CaughtOffside understands that United would prefer a permanent sale,” the report claimed.
While Villa and Leverkusen could both prove to be attractive destinations for the youngster, given that they will be in Europe next season, unlike United, they may still have a tough transfer race ahead, given who else is also expected to compete for Garnacho’s signature.
Yesterday, The Peoples Person discussed the claim that AC Milan are negotiating his transfer.
This comes after a report that their Serie A rivals, Napoli, are expected to hold talks with Garnacho’s representatives later this week.
Closer to home, United’s bitter Premier League rivals Arsenal also appear to be interested. The North London club is believed to have already met with Garnacho’s camp.
While Garnacho is a part of Amorim’s squad for this week’s friendly matches in Asia, it appears as if his departure is certainly on the table.
Losing a player of Garnacho’s calibre will certainly be a blow for United. Perhaps one silver lining would be the massive price tag he could fetch, given the fierce battle for his transfer. Should United cash in, it could go a long way towards what is expected to be a massive squad overhaul this summer.
