A head-turning statistic surrounding the latest goalscoring exploits of Atlético Madrid star Alexander Sørloth has come to the fore online.

This, of course, comes fresh off another evening to remember for the towering frontman on Tuesday.

Atlético made the trip to Catalunya yesterday, for a Copa del Rey semi-final first-leg meeting with Hansi Flick’s Barcelona.

When all was said and done in a breathless affair, the two sides could not be separated, set to lock horns in Madrid for the tie’s return leg locked at four goals apiece on aggregate.

And it was the aforementioned Sørloth who last night notched the game’s decisive eighth goal.

This marked the 2nd occasion in the space of mere months that the Norwegian broke the hearts of Barcelona’s fans, after he was also responsible for an injury-time winner in a La Liga clash back in December.

And as much, as alluded to above, has given rise to quite the statistic.

As revealed by statisticians Opta, Sørloth has broken his tie with Fernando Torres and Jude Bellingham as the player with ‘the most 90+ minute goals against Barcelona in all competitions’ since records began in 2003/04:
