The brass at Barcelona could seek out a member of the attacking ranks at La Liga rivals Atlético Madrid to act as the long-term replacement for Robert Lewandowski.
That’s according to Diario Sport, who highlight Julián Alvarez as the player in question.
Frontman Alvarez, of course, is fresh off an altogether impressive debut campaign in Spain.
After a slow start to life on the books of Diego Simeone’s Atlético following his big-money summer arrival from Manchester City, the Argentine has since emerged as one of Spanish football’s standout performers.
All told, in 54 appearances across all competitions this season, Alvarez racked up 36 direct goal contributions.
And such production, it would appear, did not go unnoticed on the part of those behind the scenes at another of La Liga’s top clubs.
This comes amid claims that Alvarez is considered a potential replacement for Robert Lewandowski at Barcelona.
Whilst the Blaugrana for the time being remain happy with Lewandowski with a view to the 2025/26 campaign, the Pole is expected to depart next summer.
At this point, Atléti’s star striker could then be sought out by Deco and co.
