FC Barcelona continue working quietly on their squad planning, and one of the key areas of concern at the club is the goalkeeping position.

With Marc-Andre ter Stegen set to resume duties as the No. 1 for next season and Wojciech Szczesny expected to serve as the short-term backup, the club are also looking to secure a reliable long-term option with an eye on the future

Deco eyes Leo Roman

In this context, Barcelona sporting director Deco has identified a name that has gained prominence this season – Leo Roman.

Indeed, according to Fichajes, the 24-year-old RCD Mallorca has caught the attention of the Barça sporting management after making a big impression in recent weeks.

As per the report, Roman’s impressive showing at the Santiago Bernabeu against Real Madrid earlier this week particularly caught Deco’s attention, and he has shared the proposal with head coach Hansi Flick.

The German manager is said to support the idea, especially given the player’s current contract situation.

Roman’s contract expires in 2026

Indeed, Roman’s current contract with Mallorca expires in 2026 and comes with a release clause of €12 million.

But considering the situation, Barcelona are weighing up a potential offer in the region of €7 million to €8 million could be enough to secure his signing.

The Catalans value his potential and the possibility of generating a profit through a future transfer.

Barcelona’s roadmap is clear: sign Roman now and loan him to a La Liga side for the 2025/26 season while Szczesny fulfils his role as backup. This approach would allow for a smooth transition in goal, while also ensuring a sensible use of resources.
