Barça went for the jugular straight from the opening whistle and delivered the opening goal of the match in just the 3rd minute when struggling midfielder Frenkie de Jong converted from close range after individual brilliance from Lamine Yamal ultimately picked out the Dutchman.

Former Valencia academy graduate Ferran Torres doubled their lead on the night just five minutes later as Barça smelled blood in the water, further adding to the scoreline in the 14th and 24th minutes via strikes from Brazilian star Raphinha and Fermín López.

López completed his brace on the night in the 4th minute of added time to gift the Catalan side a massive 5-0 advantage heading into the interval, but Valencia would ultimately refused to be silenced on the night when they pegged one back through Hugo Duro in the 59th minute.

Barcelona would strike back as the rout continued, with Robert Lewandowski eager to be among the goals despite starting the night on the bench, expertly finishing low at the far post just six minutes after his introduction.

A seventh goal on the night plunged the dagger just a little bit deeper still when Valencia centre-back César Tárrega was credited with an own goal.

Mercifully, the floodgates finally closed on the night as Barça climbed back into the top-three and just three points off league rivals Atlético de Madrid. Valencia, in contrast, remains 19th and just one point ahead of bottom-sitting Real Valladolid
