Barcelona are interested in signing Mohamed Salah from Liverpool, should the forward not agree a new deal.
Salah’s contract at Liverpool expires in the summer and there has been no public progress on an extension.
The 32-year-old posted a cryptic message on social media earlier this month, writing on X: “No matter what happens, I will never forget what scoring at Anfield feels like.”
Reports this week suggested there is still significant distance between Salah and Liverpool over the terms for a new deal and he will be free to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with foreign sides in January.
Transfer journalist Ekrem Konur has claimed Barcelona are open to signing Salah and prepared to offer him a three-year deal in Catalonia.
However, Barcelona are not prepared to pay a fee for the Egyptian with their interest dependent on him leaving Liverpool as a free agent.
Barcelona face stern competition from the Saudi Pro League. Al-Ittihad, who failed with a £100m+ bid to sign Salah in 2023, remain interested in a deal, while Al-Hilal are also keen.
The latter view Salah as a potential replacement for Neymar, who has endured a torrid time in Saudi Arabia since his €90m arrival from Paris Saint-Germain. Neymar could be allowed to leave Al-Hilal in January amid reports of a return to former club Santos.
The finances on offer from the Saudi Pro League would dwarf any offer from Barcelona with Al-Ittihad and Al-Hilal understood to be preparing packages worth €40m to €50m per season.
Salah has scored 10 goals and provided 10 assists in 17 appearances for Liverpool this season. He is one of three big names out of contract at the end of the current campaign, alongside Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk.
