Barcelona midfielder Dani Olmo did not travel with the rest of the squad to Lisbon for their UEFA Champions League clash against SL Benfica later tonight.

The 26-year-old has been sidelined with a strain in the soleus muscle of his right leg as confirmed by the club, with sources suggesting a ten-day recovery time.

Registration stress played a part

Now, according to SPORT, the stress caused by his registration situation played a significant role in Olmo’s muscle strain. The discomfort is said to be a direct consequence of the uncertainty surrounding his registration that dragged on for a few weeks.

As per those close to him, Olmo had a tough time. He has managed the situation as best as he could and has never shown his frustration outwardly.

The Spaniard is aware of where he is and the efforts it took for him to return to the club of his dreams, but that does not mean that the challenges he has faced since signing, including missing the first two rounds of La Liga, have not taken their toll.

He has been affected, and sources close to him revealed that during some training sessions, he appeared downcast, sad, and visibly troubled.

After playing against Getafe, Olmo did not experience any sharp pains or pulls. However, when he arrived in the dressing room, the affected area felt like a solid mass.

The following day, after being examined by the club’s medical staff, it was confirmed that he was dealing with a muscle overload.

Olmo knows his body well, and despite his desire to help the team in Lisbon, he understands that risking a more serious injury would be unwise.

As a result, he will not play in Lisbon and is also unlikely to feature in the upcoming match against Valencia.

The most likely scenario is that he will be available for the final match of the Champions League group stage against Atalanta.
