A few minutes before half-time in the first leg of the UEFA Nations League quarter-final between the Netherlands and Spain, one of the most concerning moments of the match occurred, ringing alarm bells at FC Barcelona.
Pau Cubarsi went down on the pitch at Feyenoord Stadium, clutching his right ankle. The Barcelona defender was subsequently substituted, making way for debutant Dean Huijsen.
Talks of an ankle sprain and possible absence for the game against Osasuna after the international break began to do the rounds soon after, although it was soon confirmed that the issue was not serious.
Now, SPORT reports that sources from the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) confirm that Cubarsi is fine and will travel to Valencia with the squad for Sunday’s second-leg quarter-final tie between Spain and the Netherlands.
“He’s in good shape, everything’s fine,” sources from the Federation stated.

This update comes in line with what La Roja boss Luis de la Fuente said after the game, confirming that Cubarsi’s injury was nothing to worry about.
“Cubarsi’s injury doesn’t seem to be serious, he’ll be fit for Sunday,” he had said.
Spain’s plan is for Cubarsi to travel to Valencia with the rest of the squad and train at 19:00 in an open-door session at Mestalla to raise funds for those affected by the DANA floods.
It is likely that Cubarsi will train separately with a specific regimen, but the expectation is that he will be available for the return leg of the quarter-final against the Netherlands.
With the tie still open after a 2-2 draw in the first leg, his presence could be crucial for Spain.
